Personal Histories: Multicultural Memoirs

“Mentor” follows the families of two victims as they uncover the heartbreaking abuse inflicted on their children at Mentor High School. The families join forces and fight back, launching an unprecedented suit against the district for the death of their children. In a disturbing display of bureaucratic bullying, school officials destroy evidence and shred emails, meeting the parents’ pleas for justice with silence and denial. The message is chilling: bullying is an acceptable method of social warfare conducted by children, sanctioned by adults, that allows suicide to be regarded with indifference and ridicule.

Please join the Seven College Conference of London for their annual spring lunch with guest speaker Sarah Dunant who will be speaking on “Falling in Love with the Dead” on Wed 6th May. Sarah Dunant studied history at Newnham College Cambridge, from where she went on to become a writer, broadcaster and critic. Her major focus has been women’s history and their roles as writers and historians. Sarah Dunant has written twelve novels, four of which have been short listed for awards. Some of her best known books include Blood and Beauty (2013) and Sacred Hearts (2010).

Designated the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, the Galapagos Islands have been described as a “unique living museum and showcase of evolution.” Undiscovered by Europeans until the 16th century, the Galapagos Islands hold a central position in modern history as the birthplace of the theory of evolution.
