Barnard Alumnae Admissions Representatives (BAARs)

BAARs are designated alumnae who act as official links between the Admissions Office and students in their communities. They help the College identify and cultivate outstanding high school students and personalize the College admissions process. Their role is an important and rewarding one. They represent Barnard at college fairs, interview prospective students, and host receptions for accepted students.

If you are interested in becoming a BAAR please contact Jessica Lee at the Office of Admissions. You may reach her by telephone at 212-854-2014 or email her at jlee@barnard.edu.

Class Activities

Graduating classes elect officers at the end of the senior year and thereafter at the time of each five-year reunion. Class officers plan reunions and mini-reunions, communicate with members through class letters and through Class Notes in Barnard magazine, and organize Reunion Fund Committees and phonathons. All interested class members can volunteer to serve as officers or to join class committees by calling their class president or any one of their current class officers or Alumnae Affairs.

The Class Officers Handbook (PDF) includes descriptions of each officer's position and responsibilities, a guide to planning mini reunions and keeping classmates connected, and an electronic communications guide for sending e-mails and updating class Web pages. To request a printed copy, please call the Office of Alumnae Affairs.

Regional Clubs

There are Barnard alumnae regional clubs and contacts all over the world, which arrange programs and events to maintain a connection to the College. A regional club can be an excellent way to network in your own community, to pursue cultural or intellectual interests, and to provide a vital link to Barnard.

Fundraising

Alumnae volunteers are an important part of Barnard's fundraising effort. Barnard welcomes the active participation of the dedicated alumnae and parents in The Barnard Fund. If you are interested in volunteering, visit the fundraising volunteer page for more information.

Alumnae raise money for The Barnard Fund by serving as members of various committees and fundraising efforts:

The Barnard Fund Committee (BFC)

The executive advisory group to The Barnard Fund is a standing committee of the Alumnae Association of Barnard College (AABC). The BFC advises and assists the Barnard Fund staff in implementing the annual giving program. In addition, each BFC member is responsible for providing support and guidance to a selected number of The Barnard Fund class volunteer leaders.

The Class Fund Chair

The Class Fund Chair is an elected class officer who works directly with The Barnard Fund staff to help solicit unrestricted annual gifts from her class. She is the point person for her class fundraising activities for five years and helps to set the pace by contributing to the Fund.

The Reunion Fund Committees (RFC)

The Reunion Fund Committees are formed to help guide the class in reaching ambitious reunion year targets. Committees are formed during the summer and fall before a class' reunion year. While the goal is to reach all members of the class personally for special stretch gifts, RFC members primarily focus their attention on soliciting leadership donors. Members also help set the giving pace by making their own special reunion year commitment.

The Interim Leadership Calling Network

The Interim Leadership Calling Network was established in order to continue personal contacts with leadership donors and prospects who are not in a reunion year. Experienced leadership calling volunteers are invited to join this important committee. These volunteers telephone or visit prospects to ask for leadership-level gifts to the College. Assignments are given out directly from The Barnard Fund office on an individual basis.

Phonathon

Phonathon is an important part of the yearly fundraising efforts. It is held for two weeks in February at the Williams Club. During this time, alumnae donors are contacted to ask them to make a gift to the Fund.
